Maker Studio: Gears Set is fun for kids and adults of all ages to challenge their STEM skills #ThinkFun

It seems like everywhere you go the kids big and small are on phones and computers whether it is at homes or on the go. My view is that too much screen time is just not a good thing for anyone young or old. Consider some of the fun and creative games like this new one from ThinkFun that are perfect for one or more kids. We love any kind games in general whether it is board games or creative stuff. Of course I let my child have some screen time but we have always been big on strategic board games, crafts and science experiments and even mind-stimulating intellectual games. My hubby and I always enjoyed them as kids and we started playing non-computer games with our tween when she was a tiny tot. It is a different mental experience when you are sitting with a game either thinking to yourself or strategizing against another player. This is the kind of skill that you can't learn on a device no matter what. I truly credit her early reading to all the board games and creative games we have played since she was a baby.

My own mom was the one who discovered the ThinkFun brand a number of years ago.  She picked up a few of the ThinkFun travel sized games and the little one was in hook, line and sinker. We discovered one of her best friends was also a ThinkFun fan.  Her best friend has two parents that are educators so take that into consideration. They know quality learning games when they see them. Birthdays and other special occasions suddenly became a good reason to buy a new ThinkFun game. Frankly, it made it easy for me because it was pretty much impossible to bomb with a birthday gift when I chose a ThinkFun game. Many of the ThinkFun games including this new one called Maker Studio: Gears Set are excellent games to play anytime. Great idea to stash an extra away for a rainy day.  We have quite a collection and haven't been disappointed yet so I was excited to take a peek at this fun creative set called Maker Studio:  Gears Set.

This creative set was actually designed by engineers for kids who have an interest in building and engineering. Maker Studio™ inspires imagination in kids of any age plus a love for engineering. This innovative set features real gears that teach you how to build a racecar, a cable car, a 3-wheeler and even a motorcycle. For each build you are given specific Engineering Challenges. It is a great way to get the kids thinking since they get to truly experiment with friction, torque and propulsion as they work to engineer their solutions. It took her a bit but once she got going she really had fun with it. They have been doing some of this in school and recently made rockets so she thought this was great. Once you’ve mastered all four builds, you can get creative and design something that’s all your own.

I love that you need to use your mind to really think about how to create each device from the motorcycle to the cable car.  You have to think, think, think about things and follow the construction instructions exactly. My tween has been having fun with this set and it gives hubby and me a challenge as well when we are working with her. Maker Studio: Gears Set  is a great set that is appropriate for ages 7 to adult.
