If you enjoy cooking and baking then this is a great scale to have in your kitchen. It is super thin and super light. The design is modern and elegant. It is so lightweight and portable you can carry it from one side of your kitchen to another with no problem. One of the things I really love about it is that the scale is easy to read. I am in that 40-something age range and my eyes are not as sharp as they used to be. I appreciate that I don't have to struggle to read this scale at all. It has been very accurate for me. I need that when I am baking. If the ingredients are off even a hare you know your baked items are toast.  This Surpah's tempered glass kitchen scale has a TARE feature which lets you easily put the measuring cup on the scale and zeros it out so you can add your ingredients for the exact weight too. I notice that so many recipes these days also use grams.  I just saw an interesting recipe this past week in the New York Times Wednesday food edition that needed precise measurements and used grams.  I can do a recipe like that now with this amazing scale.  I like that this scale measures grams, ounces and pounds and it switches back and forth with one little touch. That makes it super easy to use.  I was surprised that it also measures milliliters and fluid ounces which is also helpful for  baking.  That TARE function is also very nice...you can put a huge measuring cup or bowl on the scale and use the TARE to set the scale to zero right before you add your ingredients.

The tempered glass cleans very easily and measures about 8" X 7".  I love that the lithium battery is included.  They last for a long time too. You can buy this great kitchen scale directly on Amazon too.

I was impressed when the 3 piece SURPAHS Three-Layers Cross Overlapping Bamboo Cutting Board arrived recently via Amazon. The set was neatly wrapped and actually looked like it would be a perfect hostess gift.  The cutting boards are very thin.  This surprised me but they are designed to be thin and light.  They are extremely durable though since they are crafted from high quality eco friendly bamboo.  The bamboo is joined together in overlapping pieces to ensure no warping, cracking or splitting. It is interesting because my old cutting board was just so darn heavy sometimes I groaned when I pulled it out. I didn't realize until I starting researching that bamboo is actually harder and lighter than maple. Our old cutting board was a huge heavy maple one. I love the lightness of the bamboo. I didn't know that bamboo has less moisture absorbency than traditional hardwoods. Bamboo is also very durable and is quite resistant to odor and bacteria.

SURPAH's shared with me that these cutting boards should always be hand washed. Do not place in a dishwasher.  You should always wash with hot soapy water, then rinse and dry between each use. To protect the life of your bamboo products, apply mineral or vegetable oil to surface after each use. Just a drop and it takes a minute. Making Hamentaschen for Purim: Holiday Baking with the Kids

We thought it would be fun to make Hamentaschen for Purim this year. We have baked them before but I think we skipped a year last year. I had so much going on with my family it was a crazy time.  Thank goodness everything is wonderful this year and I pray it continues that way.  My daughter received a great kid's cookbook a few years ago that we have We used a recipe from the Children's Jewish Holiday Kitchen by Joan Nathan. It has some great recipes that are fun for kids and adults alike.  We have made this recipe before and it is easily adaptable with your filling of choice.

She is getting so big she mostly did everything herself.  I love it...just a bit of help from mom here and there. Sifting ala Julia Child....err, I mean Joan Nathan below!

She had everything creamed, mixed and blended and we have our dough in 2 cylinders ready to be chilled. 

Next step is cutting, rolling and filling them.  Then shaping them into triangles mimicking the shape of evil Hamen's hat. A perfect treat for the Purim holiday.
