Games on laptops and mobile devices are really overrated. If you don't believe me, consider that after you have discovered some of the strategy games from ThinkFun. We love board games in general. Don't get me wrong....I let my child have some computer time but we have always been big on fun board games and intellectual games. My hubby and I always enjoyed them as kids and we started playing simple board games with our tween when she was a tiny tot. It is a different experience brain-wise when you are sitting with a board game either thinking to yourself or interacting with others and strategizing. This is the kind of skill that you can't learn on a device no matter what the game you choose and I challenge you to tell me any different. I truly credit her early reading to all the board games and learning games we have played since she was a baby.
I have to say that my mom was one who discovered the ThinkFun brand a number of years ago. She picked up a few of the ThinkFun travel sized games and the little one was hooked. We discovered one of her best friends was also a ThinkFun fan. Her best friend has two parents that are educators so take that into consideration. They know good fun learning games when they see them. Birthdays and other special occasions became a good reason to buy a new ThinkFun game. Frankly, it made it easy for me because it was pretty much impossible to bomb with birthday presents when I chose a ThinkFun game. Many of the ThinkFun games including the Rush Hour Shift are excellent games to play in the car, while waiting for appointments or even to tote with you on the airplane. A better option than endless screen time. We have quite a collection and haven't been disappointed yet so I was excited to take a peek at this fun game called Rush Hour Shift.
Rush Hour Shift has been around for a while but the game was recently updated. We thought it was fun before but now this exciting strategy game is updated for 2 player excitement. What is it all about? You must find the way to escape before your opponent and it isn't so easy. You use the sliding blocks to make your escape first if you can before your opponent does. It is a lot of logic and strategy. You have to keep your mind focused because every move counts while you race to cross traffic with colorful vehicles. This new version uses cards which add an element of luck to the game.
We liked the new twist to this fun game. Each time you draw a card you hope it will help you but some luck is involved. You still need to keep in mind a clever strategy to win against your opponent though. You can always choose to move your own Hero Car but you can alternately block your opponent. It is a challenge to choose the right move each time. My tween loved the added interest with the cards. If you think about it the potential moves are endless. The Traffic Grid is constantly shifting and you have to look alive to win it. We found that you can't get too confident because that is when your opponent finishes you right off and crushes you. It is a great option for game night.
